I’m Drago. I’m around three years old and have been staying at the refuge for almost a year. I was found with a collar and a microchip but when my owner was contacted he wasn’t in a position to look after me anymore. I stayed for a while at a pet hotel but they were not able to keep me either. Finally I came to K9. I find being with so many other dogs quite stressful and I have lost quite a lot of weight because of this. I make the most of it, though. What else can you do? I am a husky type with a strong coat and different colour eyes. My people at K9 say I am very handsome and, once I know people, have a quirky, fun-loving temperament.
Visitors to the refuge like to go walks with me and one or two have been interested in adopting me. It hasn’t yet happened though. I sometimes wonder if it is because I am quite independent. Or can seem that way. I like being with people, and I’m not unfriendly, but I keep my feelings to myself so I guess I can appear quite distant. It’s just the way I am as I wasn’t shown much love in my earlier days. Given time, though, I will be a loving and affectionate companion. It is just that it takes me a little while to put my trust in people. It seems though that, so far, people aren’t willing to give me that time. Maybe one day. I do hope so.
